Pregnancy Prepares the New Daddy To Be a Father
How many men do you know that actually prepare for the birth of their child?
Yes, they may be with you through the pregnancy, or are actively involved with the adoption process or infertility treatments or other preparations that need his attention. And he's great at helping you to assemble the nursery; but how many are actually preparing themselves for the life changing event that is to occur? How many are preparing during pregnancy to be a father?
When a woman discovers she is pregnant, plans to adopt or arrange a surrogate, she can't wait to purchase her pregnancy journal and record every moment of the journey. She inherently knows this is a time of self discovery as she prepares to emotionally support this new child. We have generations of children with their mother's pregnancy journal, but what do they have from their fathers?
A woman's pregnancy journal contains all her thoughts and feelings about becoming a mother, every prenatal visit and what was discussed. Imagine if you had a journal or a letter from your father that was written while he was waiting for your birth. What would that mean to you? That would be piece of your father that you otherwise would have never known. A piece of your father nobody knew, maybe not even your mother.
In today's electronic world, we have home videos and digital photos to capture the daddy-to-be before, during and after the birth of his child. Those images and sounds still do not record his thoughts and feelings about fatherhood. And there's probably no special message to his child included in these memories.
Don't let your partner's journey into fatherhood be lost.
Find ways to capture special comments or questions from him that you can use as a keepsake for him and his child. Record this information in your pregnancy journal or capture it on video by asking him a pinpointed question. Take a photo of him answering your question and include it in your keepsake with the question and his reply.
