Consider Your Diet When Planning On Conceiving
We all know how important a diet regimen is in maintaining our overall health. However, it is just as important when you are trying to conceive. If you are asking why diet matters when you’re trying to conceive; it’s time to listen up and prepare!
Begin a diet with a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Include foods which are high in iron and calcium; take a multi vitamin on a daily basis. More importantly, ensure your multi vitamin has folic acid in it; 400 mcg daily is recommended to reduce the risk of neural-tube defects in babies. Hold on dads! You need folic acid as well. These are vital supplements for optimal sperm production and quality.
Ladies, if you are overweight it is recommended that you lose at least 15 pounds to stay within your goal weight. Subsequently, you will be able to consume 1800 calories a day.
Why is being overweight a problem?
Obese moms face the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and oversized babies. This may require a C-section as well. So begin a diet before you decide to get pregnant.
Next, exercise!
You need to keep active. It will improve your mood and help you cope with the stress. Get into a fitness program, but consult your doctor to determine which one is most appropriate for you.
If you smoke, quit!
Women who smoke are at a higher risk for a miscarriage, stillbirth or a low birth rate for the baby. If you drink, stop! Alcohol intake also produces the same risks. Dads, alcohol increases the number of abnormal sperm.
Ladies, if you love caffeine; the good news is you are allowed 300mg daily. It is also recommended that you watch what type of foods you eat. In addition, try to stay away from raw fish; undercooked meat; deli meats; unpasteurized soft cheeses, milk and juices and especially herbal teas.
Remember, a healthy diet will produce a healthy baby.
